Searching for
a Neighborhood

I Love This Neighborhood! Or do I?

You think you’ve narrowed down your home search. You know how many beds and baths you need, and you’re going through the pre-approval process with your lender.  But which neighborhood is going to best for you and your family? There are a lot of variables to consider …

Do you want a more walkable neighborhood so that you can take your dog to coffee shops and the park? Is it important to be in a certain school district? Is commute time, availability of street parking, or proximity to your family a priority? All of these things will play into the functionality and enjoyment of your home.

Our suggestion: make a checklist of all of your must haves, and your nice to haves and prioritize them. Drive through two or three different neighborhoods that you like at different times of day, and different days of the week. The neighborhood vibe can change depending on whether it’s a Tuesday morning, a Friday night, or a Sunday afternoon. Do not hesitate to talk to neighbors about their experiences, and it always pays to check out the local grocery stores and gas stations since you’ll be spending a lot of time there. Lastly, always check the latest crime statistics for the area to ensure you are comfortable.

There’s more to home buying than beds, baths and square footage. Do your due diligence and research, know what’s important to you, and what you can compromise on.  Because it’s not just a neighborhood, it’s a community.
